Amgen has announced race details for its 2019 Tour of California, including a stage that will finish in South Lake Tahoe.
Officials first announced the race would be returning to Tahoe in December.
Stage 2 of the men’s race will start in Rancho Cordova on May 13 and make its way to South Lake Tahoe. The 121-mile route will include elevation gain of 14,500 feet as cyclists travel over Carson and Luther passes.
From there the race will be directed to Pioneer Trail, eventually making the turn onto Ski Run Boulevard and finishing at the Heavenly Mountain Resort California Base Lodge.
This marks the second consecutive year the men will be riding in Tahoe. It also marks the first time in five years that the women’s race will not include a stage in Tahoe.
“This marks the sixth consecutive year, and it will be another heart-pumping, grueling climb to the finish line at Heavenly’s California Base Lodge for these elite athletes,” Carol Chaplin, president and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, said in a press release. “We invite community members and businesses to come out and cheer on Olympians as well as Olympic hopefuls.”
